FamilySearch Coverage Maps
Understanding FamilySearch Coverage Maps[edit | edit source]
The coverage maps show the percentage of record type holdings microfilmed or digitized by FamilySearch for a state separated by county. It is important to note that the map does not give the coverage of a specific record collection on Historical Records. Only Historical Records Coverage Tables give that information and these tables are only found on the Historical Records wiki pages.
The counties listed on these maps will be either red, white, or green. If the county is red, no records have been obtained by FamilySearch. If the county is white, it means FamilySearch has very few records for that county in their collection. If the county is green, FamilySearch has records for that county. The darker green the county is, the more complete the record collection.

Other Related Records[edit | edit source]
There also may be a table listing counties directly below the map. This chart lists additional records for the record type. If the coverage map is for the record type, marriage records, the list of records is by county and lists the additional types of record created when the couple married in the FamilySearch collection. Regarding marriage records, this may include marriage affidavits, licenses, certificates, returns, consents, applications, and banns. These additional records may or many not contain additional information regarding the marriage and couple. The beginning and ending dates for the record type in the FamilySearch collection is also given. The "See Catalog" blue link, goes to the FamilySearch Catalog and will indicate if that records are indexed, online, or microfilm only.
Additional links on the page[edit | edit source]

The second row of links goes to the United States map showing the coverage for each record type. Those can include birth, marriage, death, land, naturalization and probate/will records.
