Description[edit | edit source]

Del Norte County was created 2 Mar 1857[1] and derived its name from its geographical position in the extreme northwestern corner of the state (“Del norte” is Spanish for “Of the North”.).[2] Its county seat is Crescent City. It is located in the northwestern area of the state.[3]

County Clerk has divorce, probate and court records from 1848.
County recorder has birth, marriage and death records from 1873, land records from 1853, leases and agreements 1857-1954. [4]
