Probate is the legal court process by which the estate of a deceased person is distributed to his or her heirs. The term probate refers to a collection of documents, including wills, administrations (also called admons), inventories, and act books. The Church of England ecclesiastical courts had authority for this process until to 1858.

Jurisdiction[edit | edit source]

The Court of the Peculiar of North Baddesley held jurisdiction over the parishes of North Baddesley. When a search of this courts’ probate records fails to provide the desired probate record, be sure to search both the Consistory and Archdeaconry Courts of Winchester as well as the Prerogative Court of the Archbishop of Canterbury.

The administrations (admons) for this "peculiar" probate court were processed and granted through the [Consistory Court] of Winchester.
