Description

Contra Costa County was created 18 Feb 1850[1] and means "opposite coast" in the Spanish language; it is located opposite San Francisco, in an easterly direction, on the San Francisco Bay.[2] Its county seat is Martinez. It is located in the west-central area of the state.[3]
