Parish History

Charterhouse, a hospital with a dedicated chapel (extra-parochial) on its premises, was located on the north side of Charter House Square, Aldersgate Street. While the hospital is of early 13th century origins, its original chapel (once called "Newchurch Haw") was replaced later when a chapel was built by about 1613.[1]

1848 parish description:
The Charter-House, comprises an hospital as well as a school.[2]

1870-72 description:
CHARTER-HOUSE, an extra-parochial place in Holborn district, London; near Aldersgate Street and Smithfield. It extends slightly into the extra-parochial liberty of Glasshouse Yard.[3]
