French Colonization (1885-1960)[edit | edit source]
The Central African Republic (formerly Ubangi-Shari) was colonized in 1885 by the French. Ubangi-Shari was given autonomy in 1958 and renamed the Central African Republic. In 1960, the country received its independence from France. [1]
