Guide to Cavareno municipality, Italy ancestry, family history, and genealogy: birth records, marriage records, death records, census records, and military records.

History[edit | edit source]

The first documented mention of Cavareno is in 1174, but the town likely existed before that. Archaeological evidence is limited. The name may derive from a pre-Roman deity or people, but this is unconfirmed.

Jurisdictions the municipality belonged to:

  • Historically: Belonged to the Bishopric of Trento. It was a border area subject to disputes between the Bishopric and the Counts of Tyrol.
  • After Napoleonic Era: Passed to the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
  • 1919 (Treaty of Saint-Germain-en-Laye): Became part of Italy.
  • 1928: Several municipalities (Ruffré, Ronzone, Sarnonico, and Seio) were annexed to Cavareno.
  • 1952: Ruffré, Ronzone, and Sarnonico regained autonomy.
  • 1964: Seio was transferred to Sarnonico.

Major events:

  • 1174: First documented mention of Cavareno.
  • Creation of the Charta della Regola, establishing a local Communitas (date of origin unknown, oldest copy from 1632).
  • Border disputes between the Bishopric of Trento and the Counts of Tyrol.
  • 1928: Annexation of other municipalities (later reversed).[1]
