Cantal Department

History

The area of Cantal was historically part of the southern, upper area of Auvergne (Haute-Auvergne). It is one of the original 83 departments created during the French Revolution on 4 March 1790. Cantal is among the most sparsely populated and geographically isolated departments of France.[1]
