Description

Calaveras County was created 18 Feb 1850[1] and was reportedly named for the remains of Native Americans discovered by the Spanish explorer Captain Gabriel Moraga (Calaveras is Spanish for “skulls”.). Its county seat is San Andreas. It is located in the east-central area of the state [2]
