Autonomous Communities

Autonomous communities are larger jurisdictions found within Spain and may contain several provinces. It is both a political and administrative division. The autonomous communities of Spain were created in 1978. To learn more about them please read Autonomous communities of Spain.[1]

History

Castile and León, (Spanish: Castilla y León) is an autonomous community in northwestern Spain. It was created in 1983 and includes 9 provinces: Ávila, Burgos, León, Palencia, Salamanca, Segovia, Soria, Valladolid and Zamora. It is the largest autonomous community in Spain in terms of area. The regional capital is the city of Valladolid. Castile and León is a landlocked region, bordered by Portugal, as well as, by the Spanish autonomous communities of Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria, the Basque Country, La Rioja, Aragon, Castilla–La Mancha, the Community of Madrid and Extremadura.[2]
