Alpes-de-Haute-Provence Department

History

The department of "Lower Alps" is one of 83 departments created during the French Revolution on 4 March 1790. It was previously part of the province of Provence, and on 13 April 1970 the name was changed from "Basses-Alpesto" to "Alpes-de-Haute-Provence." It is bounded in the east by Italy.[1]
