Allier Department

History

Allier is a department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of central France. Named after the Allier River, it is one of the original 83 departments created during the French Revolution on 4 March 1790. It was created from parts of the former provinces of Auvergne and Bourbonnais. It was created from almost all of the former Duchy of Bourbonnaise. The history of Allier corresponds to the Duchy of Bourbon (Bourbonnais).[1]
