Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin
Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived, though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. If you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.
Companies and general counties of enlistment:
- Company A - many men from Carroll County
- Company B - many men from La Porte, Porter, White, Perry, Ripley, Morgan and other counties
- Company C - many men from Elkhart, Randolph and Hancock Counties
- Company D - many men from Marshall, Pulaski, Shelby and Tippecanoe Counties
- Company E - many men from Lake, Porter, Fayette and Elkhart Counties
- Company F - many men from La Porte and Elkhart Counties
- Company G - many men from Jasper, Fulton, DeKalb, Newton, Tippecanoe and La Porte Counties
- Company H - many men from Porter, La Porte and Lake Counties
- Company I - many men from St. Joseph County
- Company K - many men from Cass County
