Brief History

The 48th Regiment, Wisconsin Infantry was organized at Milwaukee, Wisconsin, February-March, 1865. Companies "A," "E," "G" and "H" were ordered to Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, December, 1865, and was mustered out December 30, 1865. Companies "B," "D," "F" and "I" were moved to Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, February, 1866, and were mustered out February 19, 1866. Companies "C" and "K" were mustered out at Fort Leavenworth March 24, 1866.
