136th Regiment, New York Infantry
Brief History
The 136th regiment was organized at Portage, Wyoming County, and mustered in September 25, 1862. [1] This regiment was also known as the "Ironclads" and were mustered in under Colonel James Wood, Jr., Lieutenant Colonel Lester B. Faulkner, and Major David C. Hartshorn. They marched to Washington, D. C., April 29-May 30, 1865 and were mustered out June 13, 1865. The Veterans and Recruits were transferred to 60th New York Infantry.[2]

Company C - principally recruited from Livonia, Geneseo, Groveland, Leicester and Springwater, all of Livingston County
Company D - principally recruited from Warsaw, Castile, Eagle, Gainesville, Genesee Falls, Orangeville and Pike, all of Wyoming County
Company E - principally recruited from Lima and Allen of Livingston County; Covington, Middlebury and Warsaw, each of Wyoming County
Company F - principally recruited from Mount Morris, Livingston County
Company G - principally recruited from Geneseo, Avon and York, each of Livingston County
Company H - principally recruited from Portage, Bennington, Java, Perry, Orangeville, Sheldon and Wethersfield, all of Wyoming County; and China, Delaware County
Company I - principally recruited from Conesus, Sparta, Springwater, Nunda, North Dansville, all of Livingston County and Portage, Wyoming County
Company K - principally recruited from Cuba, Friendship, West Clarksville, Bolivar and New Hudson, all of Allegany County
