Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin
Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived, though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. If you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.
Companies and general counties of enlistment:
- Company A - many men from La Porte, Boone, St. Joseph, and Porter counties
- Company B - many men from DeKalb, Noble, La Grange, and Steuben counties
- Company C - many men from Noble, Steuben, La Grange, and DeKalb counties
- Company D - many men from Elkhart County
- Company E - many men from Marshall County
- Company F - many men from Cass, Jasper, White, and La Porte counties
- Company G - many men from Lake and La Porte counties
- Company H - many men from St. Joseph and Marshall counties
- Company I - many men from La Grange, Kosciusko, Noble, Whitley, Allen, Elkhart, and DeKalb counties
- Company K - many men from White, Pulaski, Jasper, and Newton counties
- Company L - many men from Miami County
- Company M - many men from Miami, Porter, La Porte, and La Grange counties
