History
- 1662: Havreballegård County was formed from the preceding Havreballegård Province which was had also been nicknamed Århusgård Province. Specifically it contained the following districts (herreder): Hasle, and Ning, Vester Lisbjerg.
- 1793: Havreballegård County was dismantled during the county reformation. The whole area was incorporated into Århus County. Århus County was also called Århusgård County. Århus County had the same boundaries as Havreballegård did except it also included Galten district which had previously been part of Dronningborg County.
- 14 June 1799: Åkær County was incorporated into Århus County. Galten district was transferred from Århus County to Randers County. Nim district was transferred from Vejle County to Skanderborg County and Skanderborg was merged into and also became part of Århus County.
- 16 January 1822: Vrads distict was transferred from Ringkøbing County to Skanderborg (Århus) County.
- 1 July 1824: Skanderborg broke off from Århus and became an independent county again. However, Framlev and Sabro districts stayed with Århus County.
