The Highland Archive Centre at Bught Road, Inverness is responsible for collecting, preserving, and making accessible, archives relating to the history of the Highlands. The Lochaber Archive Centre collects and preserves archives relating to Lochaber, dating from the 17th century to the present.

For example, proof of death and close family relationship can make more recent records available that would otherwise be restricted by privacy laws.
