Brief History[edit | edit source]
This Unit was organized at Davenport October 18 to November 2, 1861. They mustered out July 21, 1865.[1]
Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin[edit | edit source]
Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.
Company A - enrolled in Linn County
Company B - enrolled in Jasper County
Company C - enrolled in Lucas County
Company D - enrolled in Keokuk County
Company E - enrolled in Scott County, Story County, Polk County and Jasper County
Company F - enrolled in Linn County
Company G - enrolled in Benton County
Company H - enrolled in Marshall County &c.
Company I - enrolled in Washington County, Powesheik County and Iowa County
Company K - enrolled in Washington County
