Chapman"s Peoria Independent Battery Light Artillery
Brief History
Chapman's Peoria Independent Battery Light Artillery was organized from the 14th Regiment, Illinois Infantry and attached to that regiment until February, 1862, when it was designated Battery "B," 2nd Regiment, Illinois Light Artillery.[1].
Companies in this Regiment with County of Origin
Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.
A roster of soldiers and their residences is found at Illinois Civil War Rosters.
