Units 1st through 8th

  • 3rd Regiment, North Carolina Infantry
    Organization at Garysburg, North Carolina, in May, 1861.
    Surrendered at Appomattox Court House, Virginia with 4 officers and 53 men on 9 April. 1865.
  • 6th Regiment, North Carolina Infantry
    Organized at Camp Alamance, near Company Shops (Burlington), North Carolina, in May, 1861.
    Surrendered at Appomattox Court House, Virginia, 9 April, 1865 with 6 officers and 175 men of which 72 were armed.
  • 7th Regiment, North Carolina Infantry
    Organized at Camp Mason, near Graham, North Carolina, in August, 1861.
    Surrendered with the Army of Tennessee On February 26, 1865 with 13 officers and 139 men.
    A detachment surrendered at Appomattox with 1 officer and 18 men.

Units 10th through 18th

  • 11th Regiment, North Carolina Infantry (Bethel Regiment)
    Organized at Camp Mangum, near Raleigh, North Carolina, in March, 1862.
    It lost over half of the 617 at Gettysburg, reported 15 casualties at Bristoe.
    Surrendered at Appomattox Court House, Viginia, on 9 April 1862, 8 officers and 74 men.
  • 16th Regiment, North Carolina Infantry
    Formed at Raleigh, North Carolina with company members being from Burke County, North Carolina. They were to become known as "Burke Tigers."
    November 14, 1861, was redesignated the 16th North Carolina Infantry Regiment.
    On April 9, 1865, surrendered 95 members, (12 Officers and 83 men), at Appomattox Court House, Virginia.
  • 17th Regiment, North Carolina Infantry (2nd Organization)
    Organized at Camp Mangum, Raliegh, in May 1862, and was the successor to the disbanded 17th Regiment North Carolina Troops (1st Organization).
    Mustered into serve for three years or the duration of the war.
    Disbanded at Center Church Randolph County, on 2 May 1865.
  • 18th Regiment, North Carolina Infantry [formerly the 8th Volunteers]
    Organized at Camp Wyatt, near Carolina Beach, North Carolina, in July, 1861.
    Surrendered at Appomattox Court house, Virginia, on 9 April 1865, 12 officers and 81 men.

Units 20th through 29th

  • 20th Regiment, North Carolina Infantry [formerly the 10th Volunteers]
    Assembled at Smithfield and Fort Caswell, North Carolina, in July, 1861.
    Surrendered at Appomattox Court House, Virginia, on 9 April 1865, with 4 officers and 71 men of which only 9 were armed.
  • 22nd Regiment, North Carolina Infantry
    "Organized with 12 companies as the 12th Infantry Regiment Volunteers at Raleigh, Wake County, on July 11 1861.
    Companies C and D became Companies A, 28th, and A, 26th Infantry Regiments before the regiment was mustered in.
    Mustered into Confederate service for 12 months at Raleigh, Wake County, during the summer of 1861.
    Reorganized on June 13, 1862.
    Surrendered at Appomattox Court House, Virginia,on April 9, 1865.
  • 23rd Regiment, North Carolina Infantry [formerly the 13th Volunteers]
    Organized at Weldon, North Carolina, in July, 1861.
    Surrendered at Appomattox Court House, Virginia, 9 april 1862, 4 officers and 82 men of which 35 were armed.
  • 24th Regiment, North Carolina Infantry [ formerly the 14th Volunteers]
    Organized at Weldon, North Carolina, in July, 1861.
    Many were disabled at Sayler's Creek.
    Surrendered at Appromattox Court House, Virginia, on 9 April 1865, 1 Assistant-Surgeon and 54 men.
  • 25th Regiment, North Carolina Infantry [ formerly the 15th Volunteers]
    Assembled at Camp Patton, Asheville, North Carolina, in August, 1861.
    Many were disabled at Sayler's Creek.
    Surrendered at Appomattox Court House on 9 April 1865.
  • 27th Regiment, North Carolina Infantry
    Formed at New Bern, North Carolina, in June, 1861, as the 9th Regiment.
    Reorganized in September as the 17th, its designation was later changed to the 27th.
    Surrendered, 9 officers and 103 men.

Units 30th through 39th

  • 34th Regiment, North Carolina Infantry
    Assembled at High Point, North Carolina, in October, 1861.
    Of the 310 engaged at Gettysburg, twenty-one percent were disabled.
    Surrendered 21 officers and 145 men.
  • 36th Regiment, North Carolina Infantry [also called Cape Fear Regiment]
    Organization at Forst Caswell, North Carolina, in May, 1862.
    After the capture of Fort Fisher, it served as infantry in the Battle of Bentonville.
    Surrendered with the Army of Tennessee.
  • 39th Regiment, North Carolina Infantry
    Organized at Camp Patton, Asheville, North Carolina, in July, 1861, as a five company battalion.
    In November the unit moved to "Camp Hill" near Gooch Mountain where it was increased to eight companies.
    Surrendered May 4, 1865.

Units 42nd through 49th

Units 50th through 58th

  • 50th Regiment, North Carolina Infantry
    Organized April, 1862, at Camp Mangum, near Raleigh, North Carolina.
    Mustered less than half the totalled number, about 900 effectives in November, 1864.
    Surrendered a force of nearly 250 on April 26.
  • 53rd Regiment, North Carolina Infantry
    Organization in April, 1862, at Camp Mangum, near Raleigh, North Carolina.
    Totalled about 900 effectives in November, 1864.
    Mustered less than half that number in March, 1865.
    Surrendered a force of nearly 250 on April 26.

Units 60th through 69th

  • 60th Regiment, North Carolina Infantry
    Organized at Greenville, Tennessee, during the summer of 1862 by adding four companies to the 6th North Carolina State Infantry Battalion.
    Mustered a force of 106 in January, 1865.
    Surrendered in April, a few men.
  • 62nd Regiment, North Carolina Infantry
    Formed at Waynesville, North Carolina, in July, 1862.
    Assigned to General Gracie's Brigade , July, 1863, and stationed at Cumberland Gap.
    Surrendered in September many troops.
    A number escaped from being captured. They returned to the Asheville area and in April, 1864 had 178 men present. Disbanded near the French Broad River.
  • 64th Regiment, North Carolina Infantry (Allen's)
    Organized during the summer of 1862.
    Attached to General Gracie's Brigade July, 1863 and stationed at Cumberland Gap.
    Here most of the regiment was captured in September.
    Some did escape. Disbanded near the French Broad River.
  • 66th Regiment, North Carolina Infantry
    Organized at Kinston, North Carolina in August 1863 by combining the Eight Battalion, consisting of six companies and the Forth Battalion of four companies.
    2 May 1865 at Bush Hill, signed paroles and scattered to their various homes.
  • 68th Regiment, North Carolina Infantry
    Organized in July, 1863. It was raised for the protection of the State, mustered into it's service and was never turned over to the Confederacy.
    Surrendered April, 1865.

Units 76th, 95th, and 11th

  • 76th Regiment, North Carolina Infantry
    Also known as: 6th Infantry Regiment, Senior Reserves
    Organized by the consollidation of Moss' Infantry Battalion, Senior Reserves, with other units on 23 January, 1865.
    It was included in the surrender of the Army of Tennessee, at Durham Station, Orange County, North Carolina, on 26 April 1865.
