Archives and Libraries

• Archives collect and preserve original documents of organizations such as churches or governments. Libraries generally collect published sources such as books, maps, and microfilm.
• If you plan to visit a repository, contact them and ask for information about their collection, hours, services, and fees. Ask if they require you to have a reader’s ticket (a paper indicating you are a responsible researcher) to view the records, and ask how to obtain one.
• Although the records you need may be in an archive or library, the FamilySearch Library may have microfilmed and/or digitized copies of them.

The Yemen National Digital Archive has a mandate to secure and build a digital archive for Yemen. These are documents (including manuscripts, files, maps, pictures, posters, films and sound recordings in analogue and digital form) that have been produced in Yemen, or on Yemen. The Archive also collects written, and recorded legacies from eminent persons, documents from parties, organisations and associations of national importance as well as journalistic sources.

The editors have brought together, in sixteen very handsome volumes, all the official English-language archives which have survived white ants and theft over the years and which are now housed in the India Office Library and Records and the Public Records Office in London. Libraries

Arab Genealogy Books Online
Website
Open access collection of Arabic genealogy books that have been digitized and can be browsed by country/region. Books contain valuable information about tribal histories and family lineages.

National Library of Yemen
Located in central Sana'a, near the Al-Tahrir Square and the Yemen Military Museum. It has an extensive collection of books in French and in English about Yemen.

Museums

The National Museum of Yemen in Sana'a, Yemen, is located near Qubbat al-Mutawakkil Mosque dome in Al-Tahreer Square in the city center. The Museum recently moved to a nearby building called Dar Al-Sada (Palace of Happiness). The museum contains the artifacts of ancient Yemen collected from different archaeological sites. The exhibits include the artifacts of a Yemeni Imam, artifacts from Marib, ancient Kingdoms of Yemen and artificat from the Islamic States era.
