• 1st Regiment, North Carolina Cavalry 9th Regiment Volunteers
  Organized at Camp Beauregard, Ridgeway, North Carolina, in August, 1861.
  
• 2nd Regiment, North Carolina Cavalry
  Organized at Kittrell's Springs, North Carolina, in September, 1861.
  
• 3rd Regiment, North Caroliina Cavalary (42st North Carolina Volunteers)
  Organized at Kinston, North Carolina, during the fall of 1862.
  Surrendered at Appomattox February, 1864
  
• 4th Regiment, North Carolina Cavalry (59th North Carolina State Troops)

• 5th Battalion, North Carolina Cavalry
  Organized at Jacksboro, Tennessee, during the fall of 1862.
  In August, 1863.Merged into the 65th North Carolina Regiment-6th Cavalry.
  
• 5th Regiment, North Carolina Cavalry (63rd Regiment Volunteers)
  Formed at Garysburg, North Carolina, during the fall of 1862.
  This regiment had 458 effectives during the Pennsylvania Campaign and surrendered only 5 at Appomattox.
  
• 6th Regiment, North Carolina Cavalry
  Organized in August, 1863, by consolidating the 5th and 7th North Carolina Cavalry Battalions.
  Disbanded near Salisbury in April, 1865.
  
• 7th Battalion, North Carolina Cavalry
  Organized during the summer of 1862 with six companies.
  The unit skirmished in Tennessee and Kentucky until August, 1863.
  Merged into the 65th North Carolina Regiment-6th Cavalry.
  
• 7th Regiment, North Carolina Cavalry (69th Regiment North Carolina Troops)
  Organized in January 1865.
  Disbanded after surrender May 1865.
  
• 8th Battalion, North Carolina Cavalry (Partisan Rangers)
  Organized at Goldsboro, Wayne County, from two independent companies August 23, 1862.
  Company C assigned on October 25, 1863.
  Company D assigned in March 1863.
  Company E assigned on June 1, 1863.
  Battalion was converted to infantry at some time prior to August 1863.
  Company F assigned on September 25, 1863.
  Battalion consolidated with the 13th Battalion and designated as the 66th Infantry Regiment on October 2, 1863.
• 8th Regiment, North Carolina Cavalry
  Organized in January 1865.
  Disband after surrender May 1865.
  
• 10th Regiment, North Carolina Cavalry
  "Units of the Confederate States Army" by Joseph H. Crute, Jr. contains no history for this unit.
  
• 12th Battalion, North Carolina Cavalry
  Organized in May, 1863, with three companies.
  July 11, 1864, Companies A and B merged into the 59th North Carolina Regiment-4th Cavalry.
  Company C transferred to the 16th North Carolina Cavalry Battalion.
  
• 14th Battalion, North Carolina Cavalry formerly Woodfin's Battalion
  Organized at Asheville, North Carolina, during the summer of 1862 with three companies, later increased to six.
  In the spring of 1865 four additional companies from Buncombe, Henderson, and Transylvania counties joined the command.
  It now was also called the 79th Regiment-8th Cavalry.
  Disbanded near Morgantown on April 17.
  
• 15th Battalion, North Carolina Cavalry (State Service)
  Formed in July, 1863.
  For a time it was active on the Blackwater line.
  Disbanded in Chowan County in May, 1865.
  
• 16th Battalion, North Carolina Cavalry [also called 75th Regiment-7th Cavalry]
  Formed in July, 1864, by consolidating the five North Carolina companies of the 7th Confederate Cavalry Regiment, the three North Carolina companies of the 62nd Georgia Cavalry Regiment, and Company C of the 12th North Carolina Cavalry Battalion.
