Brief History

The 166th Regiment, Ohio Infantry (National Guard) was organized at Camp Cleveland, Ohio, and mustered in May 13, 1864. It was involved with the repulse of Early's attack on Washington July 11-12, then mustered out September 9, 1864. [1]

Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin

Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.

Company A - many men from Holmes County
Company B - many men from Huron County and Medina County
Company C - many men from Huron County
Company D - many men from Medina County
Company E - many men from Medina County
Company F - many men from Medina County
