Description of Collections
The Napa Valley Genealogical Society’s library contains more than 9,000 holdings, which cover the precolonial era to the present day. The collection is the main repository for Napa County records, but offers much more, including substantial resources on Colonial America, each of the 50 states, and many foreign countries:
- Napa County birth, marriage, and death records
- Napa County voter, church, funeral home, and cemetery records
- Napa State Hospital and Yountville Veterans Home indexes
- Countless history books, including an early California collection
- A wide variety of historical atlases and maps, including Napa County
- Military resources, from before the American Revolution through the Civil War
- Religious resources, including Jewish, Quaker, and more
- American Archives & American State Papers, Mayflower Society publications, National Archives resources, Essex Institute collections, New York Genealogical & Biographical Record, and more
- Large collection of published family genealogies
- Files on local pioneer families

The NVGS library is an invaluable resource in northern California for beginning and advanced researchers. All are welcome to visit and explore.
