Brief History[edit | edit source]

The 61st Regiment, Ohio Infantry mustered in April 23, 1862 at Camp Chase, Columbus, Ohio.  They were consolidated with 82nd Ohio Infantry March 31, 1865.  [1]

Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin[edit | edit source]

Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.

Companies by County:
Company A - Many men from Wyandot County.
Company B - Men came from a mix of counties.
Company C - Many men from Montgomery & Pickaway Counties.
Company D - Many men from Cuyahoga County.
Company E - Many men from Clinton County.
Company F - Many men from Montgomery County.
Company G - Many men from Madison & Perry Counties.
Company H - Many men from  Belmont County.
Company I - Many men from Miami County.
Company K - Many men from Wyandot County.
