Perstorp Church

History

Perstorp parish has medieval origins. The name, written as Pærtherstorp in 1504, is the combination of the male name "Per" (Peter) with "torp" (new build). Perstorps church, completed in the early 1200s, was built in the Romanesque style with a rectangular nave, lower and narrower choirs and semicircular apse. During 1898, the church underwent a major restoration. Some original features remain such as the medieval baptismal font with a brass dish from 1688 and the solid oak door with wrought iron ornaments from the 1400s.
In 1971, the Oderljunga parish was incorporated into Perstorp parish.

Record Loss

During fires in the Oderljunga vicarage in 1846 and 1912, parts of the church archive were destroyed.
