Norra Mellby Church

History

Mellby, written in 1426 as Myäthilby and later Mälby, the name refers to the "farm/village" (by) being located "between" (miäthal, mellan) the villages of Sösdala and Sandåkra. "Norra" was added to the parish name on 17 April 1885. Vannaröd's castle built as a copy in Scotland in 1890 and the estate Maglö, from before 1589, are located within the parish. The original medieval church was completed around 1150. The current building was built in the 13th century and vaulted in the 15th century, but the tower was not erected until 1917. The reproduction baptismal cup stands on the original medieval footing. [1][2][3][4]
