Brief History[edit | edit source]

The 47th Regiment, Ohio Infantry mustered in August 13, 1861 at Camp Dennison, Ohio.  They were mustered out August 11, 1865 at Little Rock, Arkansas. [1]

Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin[edit | edit source]

Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.

Companies by County:

Company A - Many men from Hamilton County.
Company B - Many men from Adrian, Lenawee County, Michigan.
Company C - Many men from Hamilton County, including 22 men in the regiment's brass band.
Company D - Many men from Butler & Preble Counties.
Company E - Many men from Clinton County.
Company F - Many men from Brown & Lucas Counties.
Company G - Many men from Hamilton County.
Company H - Many men from Hamilton County.
Company I - Many men from Fulton & Lucas Counties.
Company K - Many men from Butler & Hamilton Counties.
