Task List

Instructions

There are several parts to this project. You may go through and update the sandbox by each step and record it on the Task List. Or you can complete a whole state at one time. This project must be completed in order. Do not skip ahead to another part of the project.

Part A

Step 1 - Remove Links found in Headings

  • Go through sandbox page and remove any links that may be in a heading found on the Wiki page. Most of these links are for Wiki pages that will be linked to in another way.

Step 2 - Update Headings to Match the Page Layout

  • Make any changes by adding headings and deleting old headings.

  • If a heading has no content, still add it to the Wiki page in proper order.

Step 3 - Add "See...More..." Links

  • For each heading listed below, add this bullet directly under the heading.

  • Add "See more" links to those same headings

3. Add in any headings that might be not be on the page yet that are required as now found in the template: Reservations, Indian Schools, Land Allotment records, Map of Indian Lands

Step 4 - Adding Bullet Lists

  • Under the Heading, Tribes and Bands of STATE, you will see lists of tribes under subheadings.

  • For any list of tribes that have over 10 listed, use the ul class to display the links under the subheadings.

  • To do so, click "Edit source" next to the heading with the list of tribes.

  • Copy the following code and paste it immediately above the first tribe n the list.
{|
|-
<ul class="column-spacing-fullscreen" style="padding-right:5px;">

  • Immediately before the tribe name, add <li>.

  • Immediately after that same tribe name, add </li>. See the example below.
  • Note: remove any extra "<br>" instances at the end of the tribe name.

Ul example.png

  • On a line below the tribe listed last in the list, add the following code:
</ul>
|}

  • Click on "Show preview" to see if the coding is correct on the list.

  • If the list looks like the spacing is correct, save the page and move on to the next part. If the tribe names are long and it is pushing content to the next line, try replacing "full" with "half" to determine which is the best way to display the tribe names. See image.

Part B - Adding Content

4. If there is nothing under: Native Americans Historical Background, add a link to Wikipedia page. See task list in column C for link.

5. Under the heading, Agency Records, replace the old NA Agency Records template with the text found on the NA Template:

6. In the last sentence in the above text in number 5, replace the STATE and which Regional office the state would be in for the state you are working on. Use the website here to determine which it is:

Part C - Linking to Tribe Websites

11. With the lists of tribes at the top of the page, link the name of the tribe to the 1) Wiki page or 2) official website. If neither of those exist, do not link the tribe name. Add any other websites that give the history of the tribe after the name (such as government websites). Match the example, Alabama Indigenous Peoples

Part D - National Archives Information

7. Add National Archives DC information from Native American State Pages template

8. Determine the National Archives branch by going to the corresponding state Archives and Libraries Wiki page. It will give the information there. You can copy it and paste it here.

Part E - Moving Extra Content

9. Any information on the current state Indigenous Peoples page that does not fit under any heading on the Wiki page, please put on the corresponding Talk page and make a note on the spreadsheet.

Part F - Checking Links and Reformatting

  • For the whole page, check all the URL links on the page to make sure they work. If any are broken, use the Wayback Machine to help you locate the new URL. If one cannot be found, add it to Column # to make a note about the link (Leave it on the sandbox page for now.)

  • Use the Manual of Style to reformat the book citations listed on the Wiki page.
  • If the book is referred to in the body of the Wiki page in any sort of list, use format, Book Title First.
  • If the book is a reference at the bottom of the page using a ref, use Author Name First.
