History[edit | edit source]
Hov is a common place name dating to the early Iron Age. The meaning denotes a sacred building, hall or court and was used throughout Scandinavia. Hov parish in Skåne was known as Haafh in 1392 and Houf during the 1700-1800s. The first church on the site was probably a stave church and was replaced with a stone building in the 12th or 13th century. The present church, built on the same site in 1839, retained the baptismal font and triumphal crucifix from the early stone church.[1][2]
