Each Kodak Picture Scanning System includes a Windows-based PC computer, a PS-80 Batch Scanner and a Flat-bed Accessory.

Batch Scanner
The PS80 Batch Scanner converts old and new photos into JPEG files in minutes. These digital images of color and black-and-white photos can be used to preserve memories and allow multiple options to share images. This photo scanner accommodates photos and documents up to 8-1/2 x 14 inches and scans up to 85 photos per minute. It will also scan both sides of the photo in a single pass to capture notes about the picture on the back.

Flatbed Accessory
With the Flatbed scanner, multiple photos on an album page can be scanned and then saved as individual image files so there’s no risk of harm to them and album pages remain intact. This scanner can also be used for newspaper articles, documents, books, and various photos that will not properly feed through the photo scanner. The flatbed scanner will accept materials up to 12 x 18 inches.

Preparation Before Coming to the Center to Use the Photo Scanning Stations

For a successful experience, consider the following:
  • Ensure all sticky material is removed from photos
  • Organize photos to maximize time on the scanner
  • Separate photos by type -- color, black & white, paper documents -- these groups will be scanned differently
  • Bring a flash USB drive with at least 8Gb or more of available space for a single session. [USB 3.0 drive is strongly recommended]
  • Plan to complete all efforts on the scanner within the scheduled time period

The scanners may be used only with the assistance of trained staff.

Please Note: Scanners may be reserved in 1 hour and 45 minute sessions to scan material, after which center staff will prepare the station for the next patron.

  • The Epson scanner has a 16” x 24” glass plate and a maximum dpi of 1200dpi
  • Bound books would be opened and placed face down on the glass.
  • The glass is large enough for portrait photographs or pages from large photo albums.

NOTE: If the book binding can be removed (spiral, ring, screw, etc.) you will have best results by scanning the pages on our document scanner.

Preparation Before Coming Into the Center to Use the Book Scanner

For a successful experience, consider the following:
  • Light glare can be a problem for books with glossy paper. Be prepared to adjust and compromise.
  • Take time to practice with a small set of pages before starting on the full book.
  • Seek help from a technology missionary. The user guide can be found as a document on the computer desktop for reference.
  • You will find that the scanning process will go better after your first visit and the initial experience.
  • Bring a flash USB drive with at least 8Gb or more of available space. [USB 3.0 drive is strongly recommended]
  • Plan to complete all efforts on the scanner within the scheduled time period (including any editing of images and creation of final output document)

This scanner will accept multi-page documents through the automatic sheet feeder or individual pages on the flatbed scanner, then save them directly to a USB drive as .pdf files.

This document scanner is not scheduled and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. This scanner can be used for one hour, plus incremental 30-minute periods until the scanner is needed by another patron. These units also serve as printers for the center, so you may notice print jobs coming through as you use them to scan documents.
