About

Purpose

The Dallas Genealogical Society is a non-profit tax exempt Section 501(c)(3) organization that provides resources and services of interest to family history researchers in (or with an interest in) Dallas and North Texas. We partner with the Genealogy & History Division of the Dallas Public Library to provide services and educational activities that cultivate and nurture an interest in Family History Research. We are committed to education, service, preservation, and keeping abreast of new developments in genealogical resources, technology, and information providers while pursuing these primary goals:

  1. Educate by creating, fostering, and maintaining interest in Genealogy and Family History.
  2. Assist and support the Genealogy & History Division of the J. Erik Jonsson Central Library in Dallas, Texas.
  3. Collect, preserve, copy, and index information relating to Dallas County and its early history.

Meetings

Central Library

Monthly meetings provide quality genealogical speakers on a range of genealogical topics. These meetings are open to the general public.

Seminars

All-day educational seminars are offered three times each year (Spring, Summer, and Fall). These typically feature nationally recognized genealogical speakers.

Interest Groups

DGS sponsors several Special Interest Groups (SIGs) to provide members with an opportunity to meet and work with other genealogists in specific areas.

These meetings are open to any who want to attend.

Society Publications

Our society was established in 1955 and we published our first newsletter in February of that year. Since then we have continuously published a Newsletter, Quarterly and/or Journal in a variety of formats.
