French Colonization (1893-1960)

From 1843 through 1844, French treaties were signed which made the area currently known as Côte d'Ivoire a French protectorate. In 1889 Britain recognized French sovereignty in the area, after France conquered the coastal regions. Côte d'Ivoire became a French colony in 1893. Full independence from France was gained in 1960.[1]
