Brief History[edit | edit source]
The 5th Independent Battery, Wisconsin Light Artillery was organized at Racine, Wisconsin, and it mustered in October 10, 1861. It marched to Washington, D. C., via Richmond, April 29-May 17. It was in the Grand Review May 24. It was mustered out June 6, 1865. [1]
Companies in this Regiment with the Counties of Origin[edit | edit source]
Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.
