History

• In 1694, a group of ganbusinos or metal seekers congregated on land belonging to the extinct Nuestra Señora de los Dolores del Carro hacienda, giving rise to the Real de Minas known as Nuestra Señora de la Merced, located on the slopes of the Altamira hill.
• Later it was called Nuestra Señora de Belén de los Asientos de Ibarra, since its foundation is due to Francisco and Diego de Ibarra, Benito Gaspar de Larrañaga and Juan Ignacio Larrañaga de Salcedo.
• The municipality of Asientos has a population of approximately 46,000 people.
