History

  • The municipality was created on October 17, 1889 with the name of El Progreso.
  • El Progreso became "Estrada Cabrera" in 1898.
  • In 1908 the municipality was renamed San Joaquín.
  • It was finally renamed as "New Progress" on May 3, 1920.
  • The municipality of Nuevo Progreso has a population of approximately 43,000 people[1]
