Tamahú, Alta Verapaz, Guatemala Genealogy
Guide to Municipality of Tamahú ancestry, family history and genealogy: birth records, marriage records, death records, church records, parish registers, and civil registration.
History
- The original town was founded on December 7, 1574.
- During the time of German immigration at the end of the 19th century, the Thomae family settled in Purulhá, taking advantage of the concessions granted to them by liberal governments.
- Due to its location in the Dry Corridor, Tamahú has been affected by cases of malnutrition; In September 2008, five communities in Tamahu suffered from food shortages, due to poor harvest and lack of jobs. According to the neighbors, the problem is due to the fact that the soils are exhausted and no crop is produced without artificial fertilizer, which is beyond the reach of the inhabitants.
- The municipality of Tamahú has a population of approximately 13,000 people.[1].
