FamilySearch Family Tree 1-4 Beginning-Zoom Classes[edit | edit source]

FT 1-4, Beginning-a series of 4 weekly successive course teaches the basic fundamentals of using the Family Tree features at FamilySearch.org. Materials are updated regularly so there is always something new. Also included are computer tips and add on apps to make your research time more productive.

  • 1-Basics, navigating, standardizing, adding individuals, using the Help and personal settings.
  • 2-Start page, adding record hints (+WHY), Editing incorrect information on indexed records.
  • 3- Merging duplicates and using Windows10 advanced clipboard
  • 4-Gallery, adding photos, stories, etc. to Memories, split screen and keyboard shortcuts

Intermediate FamilySearch Classes[edit | edit source]

  • 5-FamilySearch Search, RecordSeek-to share outside sources directly to FS and Ancestry, Chrome-(keeping it safe and updated)
  • 6-WIKI-your research buddy + Un-Indexed Images
  • 7-FS Catalog, Digital Library, FS Sandbox Version
  • 8-Members of the Church of Jesus Christ: ordinances, Ordinances ready, reserving, printing, sharing Temple names and Descendancy for full trees.

Temple and Family History Consultant and Leaders[edit | edit source]

  • Will provide Class materials and directions on how to use those handouts to help discover possibilities in this calling. Adds links to the guidance the church has provided for us to best fulfill our calling.

Ancestry-FT Connection 3 Consecutive Classes[edit | edit source]

  • Properly set up a church Ancestry account-correctly linked to FamilySearch FT
  • Tips to understand the basics of using Ancestry
  • Import your tree from Family Tree (1st four generations)
  • Extend the four generations to eight
  • Attaching sources, adding new people
  • Moving sources from Ancestry to FS
  • Sharing between trees
  • Using Ancestry to correct problems in Family Tree such as duplicate parents, incorrect parents, etc.
  • Ideas how to use Ancestry to further research, build and source your tree in FamilySearch

  • Has seating for 20 students plus an instructor's computer, projector for use for on site classes.
  • Instructor's computer has ability to display on all the classroom computers or send to a projector that displays at the front of the classroom.
  • This allows the opportunity to do a live class and Zoom at the same time.


TIP: To search for a keyword within a website:

  • A box opens at upper right of the window.
  • Click in the box and type in a search term i.e. Maine.
  • Box will display number of finds on that page.
  • Click on Up and Down arrows within that box to move through the results.
