Historical Background

From 1783–1868, the area of Qatar was ruled by the Bahraini and Saudi.
From 1871–1915, the Ottomans ruled the area.
From 1916–1971, Qatar was a British protectorate.
In 1971, Qatar gained its independence from Britain.[1]
