Historical Background

From 1783–1868, the area of Qatar was ruled by the Bahraini and Saudi.
The Ottomans ruled the area from 1871–1915.
Qatar was a British protectorate from 1916–1971.
In 1971, Qatar gained its independence from Britain.[1]
