Indexes[edit | edit source]
Always check the Internet for new indexes. A good place to start is Roots Web. Army Indexes are numerous, see Bevan (Tracing Your Ancestors in the Public Record Office), Fowler and Spencer (Army Records for Family Historians), Gibson and Hampshire (Specialist Indexes for Family Historians), Kitzmiller (In Search of the Forlorn Hope. A Comprehensive Guide to Locating British Regiments and Their Records 1840-WWI). Gibson and Hampson’s Specialist Indexes lists a large number of materials useful for services research.
