Class Schedule[edit | edit source]

New FamilySearch Classes[edit | edit source]

A new series will begin the week of January 10th, and run for seven weeks.  No pre-registration is required.  The same class will be taught each week on Mondays at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday at 7:00 p.m., and Fridays at 11:00 a.m.  Each week we will cover a different topic.  Refer to the class schedule for more details.

We are also beginning a five-week, computer "Hands-On" series on new FamilySearch.  This series will be taught on Thursday mornings at 9:30 a.m. beginning January 6.  Advance registration is required and is limited.  Call 801-240-9618 to register.  This class will be taught by a different presenter and will not follow the same format as the other class.  It will utilize the training.familysearch.org website.

Consultant Classes[edit | edit source]

Classes for Consultant are taught on Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings.  Please refer to the monthly class schedule for exact details.  Please be aware that these classes are taught by two different presenters and the same class is not taught each week. No pre-registration is required.

The Saturday series beginning on January 22 will be an intermediate level series, and will be most helpful for those who have taken the previous beginner series.

Research Series[edit | edit source]

We offer a 13-week series of computer "hands-on" research classes.  All of these classes require advance registration by calling 801-240-9618.  There is a new research series beginning in January that you can register for now.

Ancestral Quest Classes[edit | edit source]

These computer "hands-on" classes are taught in a four-part series.  All of these classes require advance registration by calling 801-240-9618.  Fundamentals Part 1 and 2, and Interfacing with new FamilySearch, Part 1 and 2.  It is strongly recommended that patrons sign-up and take these classes in order.  If a series is full, you can place your name on a waiting list for the next series to begin.

Roots Magic Classes[edit | edit source]

There are two types of Roots Magic classes taught in Riverton.  The first one is a lecture-style series that runs for five weeks and requires no pre-registration. This will be taught again beginning Wednesday, February 9, from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.  Another lecture-style series will be taught in the evenings beginning Tuesday, April 5, from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. and will also run for five weeks.

The second option is a "hands-on" series of computer class that requires pre-registration and has limited seating.  The first "hands-on" series, which begins Wednesday, January 12th is full.  If a series is full, you can place your name on a waiting list for the next series to begin.

Upcoming Events[edit | edit source]

There will be no Boy Scout Genealogy Merit Badge Workshop or Saturday Seminar held in December.

Saturday, January 8, 11:00 a.m. - Boy Scout Genealogy Merit Badge Workshop[edit | edit source]

The library offers a monthly workshop to assist Boy Scouts with their Genealogy Merit Badges. The workshop will be held the second Saturday of each month at 11:00 a.m.

Scouts must prepare for the workshop, by doing the following before coming:

1) interview a family member about their life. The interview can be completed by telephone, e-mail or letter and the information learned must be recorded;
2) complete a four-generation pedigree chart. Make sure this includes information about at least one ancestor who was living in 1930;
3) complete two family group sheets (one listing your parents and your family, and another listing one of your parents and their parents and siblings); and
4) bring a blue merit badge card (which can be obtained from the Scoutmaster).
If these items are completed and brought to the workshop, all other requirements for the merit badge can be completed at the workshop and authorized personnel can certify the completion of the merit badge.
