It is a non-profit, all-volunteer organization that seeks to

  • Promote interest in family history through education and sound research methods.
  • Encourage stewardship of genealogical holdings.
  • Provide a forum to share genealogical information.

The Society offers research services, and a research library, housing reference materials from California, the United States, and around the world.

It offers monthly General meetings, which feature a wide range of genealogical topics, and several Interest Group meetings, all of which are open to the general public.

The library resides in the San Rafael (Marin) Family History Center (FHC).

Please note that this Family History Center and Library will reopen on August 16, 2022 after closure due to COVID-19. The new hours of operation are listed under MCGS Research Library and Facilities
