On-line Zoom
Zoom is an online communication tool, which allows us to provide classes for you wherever you are in the world. An account is not required to use this service. For help with Zoom, select one of the links below.

Getting Started with Family History
This class is great for people that need some direction on how to get started. Using the HELP icon, we can learn all the different family history activities that FamilySearch has to offer. After choosing an area of focus, FamilySearch uses some simple steps to help you get started.

Discover Family History Activities
This class will highlight fun family history activities that can build family relationships today and connect hearts to family members who came before them. Having fun family history activities support the new balance between gospel instruction in the home. Come to have fun!

Children's Activity Day
For children ages 8-11 years old that are new to Family History. The activities include: Introduction to Family History and Activities Page on FamilySearch. For the best experience we recommend that each child have a FamilySearch.com account prior to your visit (see the link on our web page for information on getting a child their own FamilySearch.com account). Plan on 30-45 minutes. Maximum number of children is 15. Please put the number of children in the comments box when you register.

Google Earth & Maps for Family History
Learn to use Google Earth & Google Maps to discover your ancestors. Come to class with a specific town in
your family history that you would like to discover. A town name is good, but an address (maybe from a
census document) is even better.

Basic Skills
Basic Computer Skills for Family History
This class introduces you to Basic Computer Skills for Family History using the Microsoft Windows operating system at the Layton Utah FamilySearch Center (LFSC). Much of the information can be applied to other systems. The handout also includes supplementary skills which may be useful and yet not covered in class.

Mobile Apps for FS
Learn how to use your smartphone or mobile device with Family Tree and Memories apps in FamilySearch. Work on an ancestor’s information. Basically, all FamilySearch – Family Tree functions can be done in these apps.
Please Note: Experience in FamilySearch and basic smart phone functions is suggested. Come to class with a current FamilySearch account and a smartphone with “Family Tree” and “Memories” apps by FamilySearch already downloaded. These apps can be found in the Solutions Gallery in FamilySearch."
Pictures and stories are a wonderful way of preserving our family history. This class will assist you in learning how to use photos, documents, stories and audio in the FamilySearch program.

Discover Your Home Page in FS
Where do you start in FamilySearch to build the Family Tree and connect your hearts to your ancestors? Hands-on activities will introduce you to the Home Page of FamilySearch, Personal Settings, the Pedigree Chart views of Family Tree, the Source Box, and Memories where photos, documents, and stories can be found and preserved. An overview of the Person Page in Family Tree is taught in the class, “Getting to Know Your Ancestors with The Person Page.”

Getting Started with Help and Search
When you have questions about any family history topic, where can you go for help? How do you search for historical records in FamilySearch? Did you know that information in indexed historical records can now be edited to improve the information? This class introduces you to the Help and Search features in FamilySearch where you can Discover, Gather, and Connect with the lives of your ancestors and their records.

Discover Your Ancestor's Person Page in FS
What can you learn about your ancestors and the days and times in which they lived? Get to know them through the Person Page in Family Tree. It is full of discoveries that will link your hearts to theirs! Hands-on activities will introduce all features of the Person Page including Details, Timeline, Sources, Collaborate, Memories, and Ordinances.
Please Note: The Ordinances option only shows for those who are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and are signed in with a FamilySearch account.

Managing Temple Ordinances

This class is helpful for: T&FH Consultants, T&FH Leaders, organization presidency members, and anyone that has family history responsibilities in the ward/stake. Learn ideas how to find people to help in your ward/stake. Sharing of ideas and asking questions is encouraged.

Enhancing Photos - Come learn how to make your great grandfather come to life by Animating his still photo with MyHeritage tools. Also learn how to colorize old black and white photos. MyHeritage also makes enhancing or clarifying your photos an easy process. These are some fun and useful tools for your Family History!

Using Ancestry.com with FS
Please Note: PLEASE BRING YOUR USER NAME AND PASSWORD FOR BOTH YOUR FAMILYSEARCH ACCOUNT AND YOUR LDS-ANCESTRY MEMBERSHIP ACCOUNT
In this class you will learn how to “move information” between Ancestry.com and FamilySearch.org. The feature to “move information” is only available for those who are registered in FamilySearch and Ancestry as members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This is a benefit of the partnership agreement between FamilySearch.org and Ancestry.com. You will need your username and password for both websites.

Discover Your Ancestors Using Other Partner Sites
FamilySearch is the largest database of genealogical information in the world, and it is growing daily, but there is still more information available than can be processed by one group. And, family history is for everyone who is in a family, regardless of religion, race or nationality. Because of the enormity of the task, FamilySearch has formed partnerships with several other groups and companies to share information and move the pace of the work forward. These Partner Sites have agreements with FamilySearch to share their data in exchange for sharing the data and resources of FamilySearch. Most are companies who operate for a profit, but allow LDS church member free access to at least some of their data.

This class teaches how to add sources seven different ways such as; Adding sources attached to someone else, sources from another site, adding your own source, etc.
- It gives tips on how to enhance your sources by adding memories to them.
- It helps you understand how to create a story of your ancestor from sources.
- Adding sources can help you tell stories about your ancestors, draw timelines, connect the unconnected.

What is the difference between ancestral and Descendancy research and how can it make a difference in your life? In the class, you will be introduced to Descendancy research and what you can learn about extended families by using the Descendancy view. This class will explain how to use your DNA results to expand what is found in your Family Tree. The emphasis will be on using results from Ancestry.com DNA, but will also mention using cousin matches on MyHeritage DNA and Family Tree DNA.

Exploring Historical Images in FS
In this class we will explore the Image tab on FamilySearch. About 70% of the records that FamilySearch has available are not indexed. This class will demonstrate how to locate and attach those records to your Ancestor's Person Page. These imaged records contain valuable information to help discover more about your Ancestors.

Get Involved with Indexing
Indexing Basics
Indexing is the process of taking information from historical record images and putting it into a digital format. Indexing turns the records into searchable sources, allowing researchers to find and attach them to ancestors in their family tree in FamilySearch. This Basic Indexing class will introduce you to Web Indexing in FamilySearch. You will learn how to index, how to navigate the Indexing site and the importance of Indexing in Family Tree. A variety of records are available to index that are appropriate for anyone ages 11 to 111. A group of records can typically be indexed in just 15-30 minutes. You will learn how to access help for the various indexing projects. This class is appropriate for the beginner and as a review for someone who has not indexed recently.

Advanced Indexing & Reviewer Training
This class will help those who have some experience In Web Indexing with tips and tricks that will enhance your indexing experience. These hints will help you be more efficient and accurate. You will learn how to reorder fields, use different data entry forms, copy duplicate information from one entry into the next and learn how to share your batch when you need help and open a shared batch to help others. The class will include information for those who are or wish to become an Index Reviewer. This class will also be helpful for the Ward or Stake temple and family history consultant.
