Brief History[edit | edit source]

The 102nd Regiment was organized at Mansfield, Ohio, and mustered in August 18, 1862. On May 23, 1865, it moved to Decatur, Alabama and had duty there until June 30. The regiment mustered out June 30, 1865.

The Internet site, 102nd Ohio Infantry, by Larry Stevens has brief histories of the regiment and references about the regiment.

Companies in the 102nd Regiment with County of Origin[edit | edit source]

Men often enlisted in a company recruited in the counties where they lived though not always. After many battles, companies might be combined because so many men were killed or wounded. However if you are unsure which company your ancestor was in, try the company recruited in his county first.

Company A Holmes County
Company B Ashland County
Company C Mansfield, Richland County
Company D Mansfield, Richland County
Company E Belleville, Richland County
Company F Wayne County
Company G Holmes County
Company H Wayne County
Company I Wayne County
Company K Ashland County

County listing from 102nd Ohio Infantry which cites Schmutz's History of the 102d Regiment, O.V.I.
