Project[edit | edit source]

Snapshot of the task list

The purpose of this project is to delete extra "*" that are in the county information boxes on county pages.

Step 1[edit | edit source]

Go to the task list and pick a state that needs to be worked on. At the bottom of the spreadsheet are different tabs. Each of these tabs takes you to a spreadsheet that lists all the counties. You can move to different states by clicking the arrows next to the tabs (the states are listed alphabetically).
Sign up for a county by typing your name in the "name" column.

Step 2[edit | edit source]

Click on the county name in the spreadsheet. This link will take you to the wiki page for the specific county. Once on the Wiki page scroll down to the box that includes the beginning county record dates.
Look to see if there are asterisks "*" by the birth, marriage, or death dates. If there are "*" then these are what we will be deleting. Move on to Step 3. If there aren't any "*" then put NA in the "Date Completed" column of the spreadsheet and move onto the next county.

Step 3[edit | edit source]

If there were "*" in the information box (as in the example image above), then click the "edit source" above the box. It will take you to code similar to the image on the right. Find the "*" that are after the words "birth", "marriage", or "death" and delete them.

Step 4[edit | edit source]

Once you have deleted the "*" click "show preview". Check the box to make sure the "*" have been correctly deleted. If it all looks good then click "Save", put the date completed in the spreadsheet and move on to the next county.
