New FamilySearch Classes

Classes on new FamilySearch will begin again the week of September 13th. The same class will be offered each week at three different times: Mondays at 10:00 a.m., Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. and Fridays at 2:00 p.m. Different topics will be addressed each week. The classes will be taught for seven weeks.

Consultant Classes

Classes for consultants are taught on Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings.  Please refer to the monthly class schedule for exact details.  Please be aware that these classes are taught by two different presenters and the same class is not taught each week.



Upcoming Events

Saturday, September 11, 11:00 a.m. - Genealogy Merit Badge Workshop

The library offers a monthly workshop to assist Boy Scouts with their Genealogy Merit Badges. The workshop will be held the second Saturday of each month at 11:00 a.m.

Scouts must prepare for the workshop, by doing the following before coming:

1) interview a family member about their life. The interview can be completed by telephone, e-mail or letter and the information learned must be recorded;

2) complete a four-generation pedigree chart;

3) complete a family group sheet and

4) bring a blue merit badge card (which can be obtained from the Scoutmaster).

If these items are completed and brought to the workshop, all other requirements for the merit badge can be completed at the workshop and authorized personnel can certify the completion of the merit badge.

Reference Consultants

  • Scandanavian expert Linda Baker is available at the Library on Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
  • Danish experts Orla and Karen Pedersen are available at the Library on Wednesdays from 2:00 - 9:00 p.m. and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
  • German expert Camille Miller is available at the library on Thursdays from 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
  • Danish, Norweigen and Russian expert Larry Parkinson is available Tuesdays from 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

Microfilm Collection and Film Ordering

  • The Library is beginning to assemble a collection of roughly 50,000 often requested films from England, Ohio, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Massachusetts.
  • A catalog of all films in the center is being developed. Until then, please call 801-240-9601 to verify the film you want is already available.
  • If the center does not have the film that you need, the cost of ordering microfilm will be $2.50 for a short-term loan, or $7.50 for an indefinite loan.
  • Films ordered before noon will usually be available the afternoon of the following day.

Joining the Staff

  • Applying to join the staff:
Those who can serve at least 16 hours a week are invited to apply as a Church Service Missionary using the form provided on lds.org under "Serving in the Church." The form should be signed by the Bishop and Stake President.The form is then mailed to the address on the form. Those who cannot serve 16 hours, but can serve at least 7 hours a week (one shift) are invited to send an email to ut_riverton@familysearch.org or to telephone 801-240-9601.
