Spain Colonization (1532-1821)[edit | edit source]
In 1533, Francisco Pizarro, a Spanish conquistador, colonized Peru in order to gain power and to westernize the country. [1] On July 18, 1821, José de San Martin proclaimed the independence of Peru. [2]
