History
- In its origin it had the name of Achuapa.
- After becoming independent in Central America in 1821, El Progreso was assigned to the Mita Circuit.
- It was founded as a municipality on October 6, 1884 under the name of "The Valley of Achuapa," and officially changed its name to "El Progreso Achuapa" on November 18, 1884.
- The municipality of El Progreso has a population of approximately 22,000 people. [1]
